Mountain Jubilee FOLKFEST

Mountain Jubilee FolkFest 2008 is coming to Centennial Square. Admission is FREE and the event will consist of acoustic roots 'Celtic, Bluegrass, Folk, Gospel, Blues & Old-Time' music and dance.

This fun old-fashioned family event will also feature kids activities, farm animals, a Pie Baking contest, Food Vending and a Beverage Garden!

FolkFest 2008 is an old style talent competition... it's a marathon showcase of local 'Acoustic Roots' talent where the entertainers will compete for the most votes in a contest controlled by voluntary audience voting!

The event starts at 12:00pm and runs until 10:00pm with 18 local acts supplying continuous performances. You will see & hear different acts every 30 minutes for 10 hours straight!

FolkFest 2008 is themed around "grass roots music and dance of North America and British Isles" with an intent to center stage the rich local Island culture of acoustical string band music & dance.

COMPETITION RULES:

1. Each band/group/act will have 25 minutes of stage time in a 30 minute time slot.

2. Up to 18 competing acts will be eligible to enter the contest.

4. Bands can only use the sound system provided. Only acoustic instrument are allowed [acoustic plug-ins OK]. Three condenser microphones will be provided [vocals & instruments] and a optional microphone for acoustic bass will be provided.

3. The audience will vote for talent of their choice with balloting tokens. Voting tokens cost $1 each. The tokens are deposited into contestant ballot containers [Mason Jars] provided. Anyone can vote and anyone can vote as many times, for as many contestants as desired!

5. CASH PRIZES & RADIO AIR PLAY
All contestant win receive 'par value' cash for their respective token counts and radio air play on CFUV 101.9 FM.

6. Everyone will be able to cast votes all day long. Ballot containers will be officially tallied prior to the 'All Star Jam Band' fianale'.

7. The balloting table is used to sell contestant CD's and distribute business cards and or promo pacs.

8. There's no entry fee for contestants and audience admission is FREE.

YOUR VOTE COUNTS!

Everyone will be eligible to cast voting tokens, and everyone attending will be encouraged to exercise their 'right to vote'. This unique community-oriented FolkFest is designed to promote local talent! The voting process will best be served if the motivation comes from the desire to support the local acoustic roots music & dance community...
