Contemporary acoustic global roots duo ROAM will be performing live in celebration of their BC CD release Points of Departure, with special guests Rave On Studio’s acoustic singer/songwriter Melissa Endean and gypsy cabaret musicians the Redboot Trio, all coming together for an evening of beautiful songwriting, globally infused music and social consciousness.
ROAM is a contemporary collaborative global roots duo, the blissful result of a ten-year musical relationship between Alex McMaster (cello, vocals, clarinet) and Lisa Patterson (piano, vocals, alto sax). They infuse their adventurous songwriting with the diverse sounds and lyrical images of their personal heritages, musical influences, and life experiences living, traveling and collaborating across four continents. Points of Departure is a sensual journey filled with musical stories of new beginnings, courage and surrender. The album features guest artist Maryem Tollar, a 2009 Juno nominee. Alex and Lisa are active members of the Canadian independent music scene and have performed and recorded with many of Canada’s acclaimed artists including Feist, Jane Siberry, Lorraine Segato, Christine Fellows, A Northern Chorus and Sarah Noni Metzner. With their affinity for melody, improvisation and world music, ROAM is creating a unique new sound with a rare and refreshing intimacy. They are being featured in a global roots showcase on March 13th in support of Amnesty International during Canadian Music Week.
Born and raised in BC's Okanagan Valley, coming from a musical family with a grandfather who played with Johnny Cash, glorious singer/songwriter Melissa Endean’s voice has inspired listeners from Germany to Japan and Australia. At 23, Melissa remains Vancouver's newest musical sensation and continues to attract the attention of the media and audiences throughout British Columbia and the world. CBC Radio2 has called Melissa “one of Canada's up and coming major artists!”

The Red Boot Trio is probably best described as fiery gypsy cabaret with a unique Balkan influence, featuring three skilled musicians: Amelia Slobogean on violin, Alison Jenkins on accordion and Russell Sholberg on double bass. This three-piece boldly scorches its own sultry signature on classics like "Blue Drag.” They are as riveting to watch as they are to listen to while fierce original compositions test their capabilities. Each of the players is a dedicated, accomplished musician with a quick ear, a passionate heart and a fire in the belly. In honor of this special occasion, the Red Boot Trio will be premiering new music.
