Event Description
The all-access community talent show you've been waiting for!
The rookie performance event formerly known as Amateur Hour!
It's..................... ℑresh ℘rince !!!!!!!!!!!
Ponyboy (Man Up, Bootyburg) and Just Call Her Heather (Not Safe For Work, This Ain't Yo' Mumma’s Bingo) have joined forces to produce this exciting new addition to the Cobalt’s growing lineup of community oriented, arts focused, queer positive monthly events.
Since 2012, Man Up’s Amateur hour has been providing newcomers with opportunities to get involved in Vancouver’s booming indie and alternative performance community. When Amateur Hour reached its 2 year anniversary, we decided to turn a new page: We’re re-launching under the new name FRESH PRINCE, and opening our arms, doors, and hearts beyond the drag world. Calling ALL aspiring stage performers of any kind, WE WANT YOU!
- have you daydreamed about trying burlesque?
(or are you so amazing at burlesque and want to try drag?)
- experienced dancer who’s eager to genderbend?
- tried drag but want to switch it up and swap genders?
- moonlight as a kinky cosplayer but dying for more of an audience?
- closeted singer-songwriter secretly longing to let your voice fly free?
- slam poet daring to try a spoken word -meets- genderplay piece?
- secretly good at juggling and willing to show it off in a bad ass outfit like even just panties?
- no stage experience whatsoever but wanting to hone your talent in a safe and encouraging environment?
THIS IS THE SHOW FOR YOU!
Join us for our LAUNCH on Thursday December 18th!!

Ponyboy, producer and host of Canada's biggest drag king show ::Man Up::, launched Amateur Hour in July 2012, a monthly weeknight drag show designed to give aspiring genderbenders a stage and an audience to test their mettle. While Amateur Hour has evolved into something of a “finishing school” for rookie kings, and many of them have progressed to bookings at Man Up proper, its most cherished contribution has been the opportunities it's created for mentorship and camaraderie among the various generations of queer entertainers in Vancouver. Ponyboy has performed in New York City, San Francisco, and Berlin!
Just Call Her Heather has been producing burlesque shows in Vancouver since 2011, and is the co-producer of NSFW: Hip Hop Meets Striptease. You can catch her performing burlesque and rapping around town. Heather is excited to create more opportunities for new performers, as well as seasoned pros, to polish their creations and art form in front of a live audience! Or if people want to just get funky with it and try something challenging or different, and push their creative boundaries in a safe, positive, and supportive space, that's awesome too!
