Quw'utsun Valley's newest folk-pop super group Firebird is comprised of Stephanie Cutler, Jeremy Walsh (Scruj MacDuhk, Crikey Mor), and Genevieve Charbonneau (Heartwood, Genevieve and the Wild Sundays). The three are accomplished and award-winning singer-songwriters, taking turns singing leads on original songs and leaning heavily into gorgeous three part harmonies. With guitar, piano, accordion, and bouzouki, they meld irish, bluegrass and pop to create a fusion folk that is full of fire and redemption.
Genevieve crafts tales of love, loss and rural living, bringing charisma and a lively presence to the stage. She recently placed in the 2023 John Lennon International songwriting competition in the Folk Category top three with her single "Symphony of Sorrow". Genevieve was also the winner of 2017 BC Songwriter Competition, an International Acoustic Music Awards-finalist, and her 2019 album "Heart is a Tower" charted in the top twenty of the NA Folk DJ charts.
Jeremy Walsh, a veteran performer, brings his experienced and engaging musical personality to the band. He was winner of 2007 Songwriter of the Year at Vancouver Island Music Awards, and a collaborator on Scruj Macduhk's Juno Award nominated album 'Road to Canso', which won Best Roots Album and Best Independent Album at the Canadian Prairie Music Awards in 2000.
Stephanie Cutler is a pianist and songwriter with a deep love for vocal harmonies. She graduated from Grant MacEwan College in piano and composition in 2008 where she trained in a broad variety of genres of music including jazz, blues, rock, funk and pop. Her presence is both powerful and captivating when taking the stage with her original songs.
The opportunity for each of these performers to breathe new life into their music, and flex their vocal harmonic muscles, has been exciting and inspiring for them and this carries over to their live show. They are heading into the studio in fall 2023 to begin recording their first album. — lucky us!!
