Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; Everyone welcome jam 6:45pm, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers Three Rivers at 9pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door
THREE RIVERS is a newly formed ensemble featuring three Vancouver Island musicians with a vast background in ethnic, folk, and classical music. All three are members of the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra (VICO) as well as performing and recording with many other groups.
Niel Golden (Hand Percussion and Ukulele) has toured and studied internationally with both Indian classical music and Middle Eastern music, and is a prolific composer. Douglas Hensley is a multi-instrumentalist and an expert in early music, classical Persian music, and other disciplines. He plays almost any plucked instrument, including guitar, lute, oud, tar, and banjo to name a few. Mark Ferris is an accomplished violinist with experience leading orchestras in Canada as well as contemporary chamber ensembles. In addition to violin, Mark also plays mandolin, guitar, and keyboards.
In keeping with VFMS tradition, Three Rivers will include some familiar songs in this program and encourage the audience to join in! Definitely a feature not to be missed!!
